The first edition of the Specialization Program for the REDD+ Mechanism and the Voluntary Carbon Market designed by BAM’s technical team for concession partners of carbon projects developed in Madre de Dios began last Wednesday, November 27th. This program seeks to increase knowledge to promote conservation and sustainable forest management, as well as to empower project partners by encouraging dialogue and active participation in the projects.

Details of the Program

The program will be conducted through 5 online sessions to address 4 thematic modules: 1. Climate Change and Carbon Markets, 2. REDD+ Mechanism, 3. Good practices and sustainable management, and 4. Environmental leadership. In the sessions, BAM’s team explains and answers questions related to climate change, the purpose of the carbon market and how it works, and the generation of carbon credits. In addition, key concepts to understand carbon projects, good practices associated with conservation are developed and finally, in the last session, a renowned environmental advocate will share his experience and lessons learned for future leaders.

“Deepening the knowledge of our partners and their families about the REDD+ Mechanism and the voluntary carbon market is key to strengthening the governance of our projects, as well as fostering dialogue, active participation and the training of new environmental advocate leaders” – Sebastián Llerena, Head of Community Relations at BAM.

To date, among the participants of the program, we have had 7 women linked to forestry concessions in Madre de Dios, and 5 children of concessionaires. In this way we contribute to the strengthening of women’s capacities and the formation of new leaders in the forestry sector in the region, including the new generations of forest guardians.

All of BAM’s projects include the community at the core of the value proposition, in all of its activities. On a regular basis, members receive various theoretical and practical trainings that seek to strengthen their hard and soft skills; for example, in leadership and empowerment, fire management and prevention, biodiversity monitoring, among others.

Join the fight against climate change by purchasing carbon credits from BAM’s projects and help empower the families on the front lines fighting to defend our Amazon forests.
