On January 20, 2025, BAM held a participatory workshop with regional authorities and civil society representatives from Ucayali, where it presented the details of its large-scale reforestation and restoration project with native species. The purpose of the dialogue was to communicate the scope of the project and to open up the exchange of experiences and knowledge as part of the stakeholder engagement and socialization process (reporting, consultation, feedback).
Details of the project
The project aims to recover more than 10,000 hectares of degraded lands through an innovative design of reforestation and restoration strips with native species, generating a positive change in the dynamics of the area of influence, promoting employment, the development of social capacities, and favoring the return of wildlife to an area whose economic and ecological value was completely lost before the project. In this way, the project seeks to benefit hundreds of local families and set a precedent for large-scale, sustainable development in the region.
Its design is backed by BAM’s more than 18 years of experience in the successful development of forestry projects in the Peruvian Amazon, specifically in the management of valuable forest species such as the shihuahuaco, in a unique genetic capital developed in almost two decades of work in the region, and in the company’s expertise in the international carbon market.
About the workshop
The workshop was attended by representatives of the Padre Cote Cooperative, Aidesep Ucayali Regional Organization – ORAU, Ucayali Agrarian Chamber, Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon – IIAP, National Institute for Agrarian Innovation – INIA, Municipality of Campo Verde, US Forest, along with other technical specialists from the region. After the presentation made by BAM’s technical team, dialogue was encouraged, answering questions and receiving suggestions from the participants, who also expressed the importance of implementing a project with the proposed characteristics to promote the economic, social and environmental development of the region.
BAM will continue to facilitate these spaces for dialogue with authorities and potential project participants in search of continuous improvement and the construction of alliances to ensure compliance with the proposed objectives and their positive impacts.
