After SCS Global services conducted a meticulous validation process, the reforestation program for native species at Bosques Amazónicos BAM in Pucallpa, Ucayali, obtained Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) certification. The Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) is the most recognized metric in the global voluntary carbon market. By achieving certification, Campo Verde became the first commercial reforestation program for native species in the world to be certified under this prestigious standard.
Additionally, Campo Verde has been validated with the maximum level – Gold Standard– in the framework of the norms of the Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) standard in recognition of its commitment to meeting the highest ecological and social requirements. This certificate is only given to a select group of projects that are committed to conserving biodiversity and helping the world fight the impacts of climate change.
“We are very satisfied to be recognized for using the highest ecological and social standards. We firmly believe that this model for sustainable silviculture can be extended throughout the region to prevent deforestation and promote development in the Amazon,” said Jorge Cantuarias, General Manager at BAM.
This milestone reaffirms the importance of Campo Verde, which represents a success story for reforestation with native species in the Amazon and an instrument that fights climate change while improving the quality of life of rural communities.
