The importance of conserving the Amazon forests
Deforestation generates one fifth of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG). In Peru alone, 150,000 hectares of Amazon forests are deforested on average every year.
Natural climate solutions (NCS), such as programs to reduce the emissions derived from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+), become effective strategies to fight the climate crisis.
