The world’s first animated film “Climate Positive” offsets its emissions with REDD+ Brazil Nut Concessions!

The Peruvian film “Milagros, una osa extraordinaria” achieved Climate Positive certification by offsetting its carbon emissions with credits generated by our REDD+ Brazil Nut Concessions (REDD+ BN) conservation project.

Throughout its execution, the producers of the film, CHASKA ENTERTAINMENT, carried out various actions in order to minimize – to the extent possible – the emissions (tCO2e) generated as a result of the film’s development.

Following their commitment to #sustainability, the residual emissions were offset with 1,000 carbon credits generated by BAM’s conservation project: REDD+ Brazil Nut Concessions.

After rigorously following the global standards for climate action established by the United Nations, “Milagros” achieved the prestigious “Climate Positive” certification from the Green Initiative, becoming the first animated film in the world to achieve such recognition. The certification process had 3 stages: the calculation of emissions; mitigation with carbon credits provided by BAM; and ecological restoration with the establishment of 700 native trees, mentioned Tatiana Luiz, representative of The Green Initiative.

“We must rethink the way we make films. From the entertainment industry we can also change things and thereby contribute to improving the environment”, said Hernán Garrido-Lecca, CEO of Chaska Entertainment.

“This great film reinforces to us the importance of conserving our wonderful biodiversity and generating development in harmony with the environment, which aligns perfectly with the purpose we have at BAM and REDD+ Castañeros. We congratulate CHASKA ENTERTAINMENT for this exemplary achievement”, said María Alejandra Cantuarias, BAM’s Conservation Manager.

The residual carbon emissions from “Milagros, una osa extraordinaria” were offset by our REDD+ BN conservation project, in which we protect +500,000 hectares of Brazil nut forests together with +700 concessionaire families in Madre de Dios.

We invite you to learn more about REDD+ BN project and Milagros, and to continue promoting the protection of our Amazon and its extraordinary biodiversity!
