On April 18 and 19, the concessionaire families, partners of the REDD+ Brazil Nut Concessions project, reaffirmed their commitment to forest conservation, sustainable forest management, and the development and continuity of the REDD+ project developed by Bosques Amazonicos (BAM).

In a letter of pronouncement, the Brazil nut producers (concessionaires) acknowledged the support and benefits that the REDD+ Brazil Nut Concessions project provides them for the care of their forests and the well-being of their families. The Brazil nut producers also affirmed that by participating in the project, they become part of an organization that allows them to defend their interests, access a better standard of living and obtain tools to confront the growing threats affecting their forests.

“We are not alone to defend our forests nor to pursue a better situation for our Brazil nut families. As members of REDD+ Brazil nut concessions we are part of a community, an organization, a team, that allows us to have stronger capabilities and more resources to face the growing threats that constantly haunt us. Together we are stronger!”

“We rely on a team of professionals who provide us with technical and legal support to properly manage our natural forests. We have a permanent monitoring and surveillance system to protect our forests. We have the necessary support to comply with the commitments established in our concession contracts with the Peruvian government. We have access to sustainable development and improvement opportunities for our family betterment”.

The Brazil nut producers, partners of the REDD+ project, also ratified their commitment to continue working for the conservation of the Brazil nut forests, promoting the reduction of CO2 emissions through the defense and optimal (adequate) management of their areas. To close the letter, they expressed their gratitude to the investors and clients for their trust and invited them to visit the project.

“We reaffirm our commitment to the REDD+ Brazil nut concessions project (…) Our hope is the REDD+ Brazil nut concessions project! For the future of our natural forests, our families and our community! (…) we would like to express our gratitude to all our clients, investors, and friends, who all these years have joined the cause of REDD+ Brazil nut concessions project, as they have trusted us. (…) Visit us and learn more about our work in the Brazil nut forests. Let’s fight together for the conservation of our natural and unique Brazil nut forests!

In addition to the letter, concessionaires reaffirmed their commitment to the REDD+ Brazil nut concessions project and to the protection of their forests symbolically on a tree of “commitments and intentions”, as part of the year-end celebration event.

REDD+ Brazil nut concessions project works to protect more than half a million hectares of Amazonian forests with the participation and commitment of +600 concession partners grouped in the Federation of Brazil Nut Producers of Madre de Dios (FEPROCAMD).
