LATAM Perú acquires carbon credits from BAM’s Campo Verde Reforestation Project and neutralizes the emissions at its land operations

LATAM Perú joined a select group of companies committed to conserving biodiversity in the Peruvian Amazon and the wellbeing of the planet. In the framework of this effort to protect the environment, LATAM Perú neutralized the CO2 emissions associated with its land operations and with the day trips made by more than 4,000 employees.

After a process was conducted to verify the company’s CO2 emissions, which was led by the Asociación Española de Normalización y Certificación (AENOR), a global leader in certification for management, products and service systems, LATAM Perú offset emissions equivalent to 7,000 tons of carbon by acquiring VCS and CCB credits from the Reforestation Program with Native Species, Campo Verde, which BAM conducts in Ucayali.

More about the BAM’s Campo Verde Reforestation Program

BAM’s reforestation program with native species in Campo Verde, Ucayali, was the first in the world to obtain certification under the strict international standards of the Voluntary Carbon Standard, following the norms of the AFOLU for forestation and reforestation.

Thanks to this innovative model to recover degraded forest and grazing areas, Bosques Amazónicos BAM has restored 730 hectares to date by setting up a commercial plantation with more than 620 thousand native trees that are highly valued in the international market, such as the shihuahuaco or cumarú and the marupa. This program is also a source of employment in the region: it has generated more than 400 direct Jobs at the rural level.
