CAF – development bank of Latin America offset the carbon emissions (tCO2e) generated by its operations during 2021 by acquiring carbon credits from our REDD+ Brazil Nut Concessions project. In 2019, the institution offset its historical footprint with the same project.

In line with the commitment to achieve a more integrated, inclusive, sustainable and productive region, CAF offset the carbon emissions generated by its operations during 2021 by acquiring 3,786 carbon credits generated by the REDD+ Brazil Nut Concessions conservation project, developed by BAM in partnership with more than 560 concessionaire families in Madre de Dios, Perú.

After a rigorous selection process that evaluated the integrity and comprehensive benefits of various projects, the multilateral organization selected REDD+ Brazil Nut Concessions for its environmental (+2.5 million tons of CO2 avoided annually), social (+560 rural families benefited) and biodiversity (+1,000 native species protected) impacts.

In 2019, CAF offset its historical footprint (emissions generated by its operations since its founding in 1970) by acquiring carbon credits from the same conservation project: REDD+ Brazil Nut Concessions. On that occasion, a total of 162,986 carbon credits were permanently retired on behalf of CAF.

We congratulate such a prestigious organization for leading the environmental and sustainability commitment in LATAM. The investment made by CAF will allow us to continue protecting the ancestral forests of Madre de Dios and contribute to the sustainable development of the region.
