The reforestation program in Ucayali continued to work throughout 2019 and included planting 220 thousand new shihuahuaco and marupa trees on 305 hectares. The total area of our property dedicated to this effort currently stands at 1000 hectares.
This new reforestation effort focused on developing seedlings with optimum characteristics, which increased the range of areas of origin of our species and benefitted BAM’s program to improve forest genetics.
All of the stages of the planting process for BAM’s new plantation –soil study, seedling development, soil preparation, fertilization and planting– as well as adequate maintenance of the existing plantation, were conducted by local workers from the communities near BAM’s property and from the city of Pucallpa. 20% of these jobs are held by women.
